Sandakphu at 3636 mts is the highest point in the state of West Bengal as well as the highest point on the trek route. It falls in the Singalila National Park in the Eastern Himalayas. Singalila NP is rich in bio diversity with abundant flora and fauna. If lucky, Trapgopans and Red Panda can be spotted. This easy to moderate trek is one of the most scenic getaways crossing the Indo Nepal border at certain points. It is a four season (with each season bringing out the uniqueness of the route) trek route making it a delightful destination for nature lovers. Sandakphu is one point where we get to see sunrise amidst towering 8000 mtr peaks like Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu etc . The best part of this trek is enjoying a ‘hide and seek’ with the ‘sleeping Buddha’ – so known due to the snowy formation of the mountain ranges that align themselves to appear like Buddha sleeping over the clouds!! Being on the Indo Nepal border, you get to experience the Indian, Nepalese, Tibetan and Buddhist culture. With oak, bamboo, rhododendron et all, the route is fascinating from day one. Stay in trekker huts / tea houses makes the trek that much more comfortable.
